Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati attended the meeting of Foreign Ministers of NATO member countries, which was held in Brussels.
At this meeting, which preceded the NATO summit to be held in Warsaw in July, Foreign Ministers of NATO countries addressed a range of issues relevant to NATO and Euro-Atlantic security such as ways to respond to threats and security challenges in the eastern and southern flank of the Alliance, expectations of allies on the Warsaw Summit, progress made in the framework of NATO’s "Resolute Support" in Afghanistan as well as the political framework of cooperation between NATO and the EU.
Ministerial proceedings started with a meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers, where Montenegro was invited. Ministers also signed a protocol on the NATO membership of Montenegro, which is expected to become the 29th NATO member in the near future. Albania has been and remains a promoter of the “open-doors” policy of the Alliance, for Euro-Atlantic integration is a vision for a more secure and stable trans-Atlantic community. Today's act, together with previous enlargements, is clear evidence of the success of the “open-doors” policy and proof of the alliance’s potential to project stability in the Euro-Atlantic space.
Moreover, NATO Foreign Ministers shared views on current developments concerning Euro-Atlantic security and underlined the need of the Alliance's engagement in facing security challenges stemming from eastern and southern borders of the Euro-Atlantic space.
