The Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati is currently paying a visit in the United States of America where he held meetings with senior officials of the White House.
At meeting in the White House Roosevelt Room with President Trump’s Deputy National Security Advisor K.T. McFarland, parties discussed the consolidation of the US-Albania strategic partnership, especially in areas of long-term interests for the safety and welfare of both countries.
Talks dwelt on the latest developments and security challenges in our region, as well as Albania’s principled commitment in this context. Mrs. McFarland voiced that: “The United States strongly supports the strategic partnership with Albania”.
Minister Bushati focused on “The need to coordinate efforts on consolidating the Euro-Atlantic orientation and improving the security environment in the region, in response to factors that aim to destabilize the Western Balkans by hindering the course of transformative reforms”.
In this context, Mrs. MacFarland reconfirmed “USA’s strong support to implement the reforms in the rule of law and in particular our efforts on the implementation of the justice reform”, considering them vital reforms.
On track of the Meeting of the Global Coalition against ISIS held in Washington in March, special emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation in the fight against terrorism, as well as measures taken by our country for preventing and fighting violent extremism.
Mrs. McFarland praised Albania’s active role in the fight against terrorism, in the framework of the Global Coalition against ISIS, our country's contributions to NATO missions and operations on the Alliance's southern and eastern borders, and Albania’s specific weight in the framework of regional cooperation.
During this meeting, parties expressed willpower to deepen a more proficient cooperation in line with Albania’s and the region’s needs, so as to make it more efficient in coping with common security challenges.
