Firstly, I would like to thank the United Kingdom presidency of the Council for convening this meeting on such a critical and urgent subject. I commend the UK government for its leadership and commitment in tackling the tragic issue of human trafficking.
Albania aligns itself with the statement delivered on behalf of the European Union and I would like to add the following remarks in my national capacity.

At the outset, I would like to thank the delegation of Ukraine for choosing such an interesting and important topic for the second open debate of their presidency. I would also like to thank UN Secretary-General António Guterres, OSCE Secretary-General Lamberto Zannier, and Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Helga Schmid for their comprehensive thought-provoking briefings.
In a special event held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, Cabinet ministers and diplomatic corps accredited in Tirana was inaugurated the beginning of the implementation of the Online Consular Service (SHKO) platform. This platform fulfills the priority of the Albanian Government to increase transparency and modernization of consular and other public administration services.
Amid a marvelous festive atmosphere, the Albanian community in New York celebrated 104 years of the Independent Albania. The event was organized under the attention of the Assemblyman from the 80th District of New York, Mr. Mark Gjonaj, a number of Albanian associations in New York and thanks to the special contribution of Mr. Sal Rusi.
The Summit was a major event organized for the first time by the Prime Minister of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama in Tirana on 18-20 November 2016. The summit brought together for the first time prominent individuals from different areas, leaders or representatives of various organizations in the diaspora, as well as its members from all over the world. The Summit was the first pan-Albanian assembly where, together with authorities and other stakeholders in the country, options for establishing a genuine cooperation between the homeland and the diaspora in the world were analyzed.
The Permanent Representative of Albania to the United Nations, H.E. Ms. Besiana Kadare received on October 24 at our Mission the Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations H.E. Ms. Samantha Power.
Discussion focused on the excellent bilateral and multilateral cooperation between our two countries, notably in the areas of human rights, gender equality and women’s empowerment, countering violent extremism, as well as issues related to peace and security in the framework of the United Nations.
During his stay in New York in the framework of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati held a meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini.
In the framework of the UN General Assembly proceedings held in New York, Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati attended the event on the "Fight against radicalization and violent extremism through education". This activity was initiated by Albania, in cooperation with the United States, the Vatican, Jordan, Morocco and UNESCO.
