Today is a historic day!

Today we sign the historic Paris Agreement on Climate Change. I am particularly glad and honoured and proud to be here today to sign the Agreement on behalf of Albania.

The great astronomer and one of the greatest philosophers of our time, Carl Sagan, in his book “Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space” wrote:

To begin, I would like to make a short introduction, why Albania decided to be a pilot Country for the Goal 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong and Accountable Institutions and inclusive societies.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a distinct honour to address you on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Albania, at this 30th Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly on the World Drug Problem (UNGASS). We welcome the opportunity for this important debate on addressing the world drug problem.

Albania elected member of the UNDP / UNFPA / UNOPS Executive Board for the period 2017-2019


On 5 April 2016 Albania was elected member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme, the UN Population Fund and the UN Office for Project Services (UNDP / UNFPA / UNOPS) for the period 2017-2019.

The election of Albania in this important leading institution is proof of its active engagement in the framework of UN development agencies, especially after the adoption of the Transformative Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030.
