Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is a distinct honour to address you on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Albania, at this 30th Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly on the World Drug Problem (UNGASS). We welcome the opportunity for this important debate on addressing the world drug problem.

Albania elected member of the UNDP / UNFPA / UNOPS Executive Board for the period 2017-2019

On 5 April 2016 Albania was elected member of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme, the UN Population Fund and the UN Office for Project Services (UNDP / UNFPA / UNOPS) for the period 2017-2019.

The election of Albania in this important leading institution is proof of its active engagement in the framework of UN development agencies, especially after the adoption of the Transformative Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030.

It is a great pleasure for me as Minister of Social Welfare and Youth to participate in this Session of the Commission of Status of Women and to have the opportunity of expressing the engagement and commitment of Albanian Government for women’s empowerment - as a key condition towards a sustainable development of a society.

We would like to thank the Angolan Presidency of the Council for choosing the theme of prevention and resolution of conflicts in the Great Lakes Region, and for the very informative concept note in preparing this debate.

In the framework of the high level meeting to be held on the occasion of the 50th UNDP anniversary, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ditmir Bushati held a meeting with the UNDP Administrator, Helen Clark. Talks focused on the successful cooperation between Albania and the UNDP, especially during recent years, in which our country has been included in a UNDP pilot program named “Goal 16”.

Dear Colleagues,

Good afternoon to all and thank you indeed for being here today with us.

1. I am pleased, together with Norway and in collaboration with the UNDG, to be the co-host of this meeting and share with you some ideas and, I hope, stimulate a discussion in order for the UN Development System to adapt, and fully engage into the new programme environment, the Post 2015 or the SDG driven world.
