Premiere of the short documentary film "Kismet"

On Wednesday 11 October, at 8 pm, in KC "Grad" (Brace Krsmanovic 4, Belgrade) took  place the premiere of the short documentary film Kismet.

Kismet is a story about young women from Albania and Serbia and made by young women from Serbia and Albania, who strongly believe that youth co-operation and gender equality are preconditions for long-lasting peace and progress.

The short documentary dives into lives of eight young women of different background and experiences, but all living in still predominantly patriarchal systems. The film zigzags between urban and rural areas of two Western Balkan countries, between traditional and digital, between pressures and innovations, old narratives and new chances, asking - how similar are we in our differences?

Why would a Serb want to learn Albanian? Why would an Albanian marry a Serb? Who is a ‘foe’, and who is a ‘friend’? Can bridges among two countries be strengthened by young women playing football together or few enthusiasts co-operating on Wikipedia?

What are the solutions for the same challenges?

Should young women accept their assumed ‘kismet’ (tur. destiny, fate), or ‘they can be strong warriors they are’ actively encouraging dialogue in the restless region?

The documentary is produced within the project “Women of Albania and Serbia: We Can Do It!”, implemented by CSOs Together Together, Center for social balance, Youth Centre Brus from Serbia and New Vision from Albania, within the platform Humans of Albania and Serbia (www.youthumans.net), supported by the OSCE Mission to Serbia in partnership with the OSCE Presence in Albania,  Serbian Ministry of Youth and Sports, Albanian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Albanian National Youth Service and National Youth Council of Serbia, in the framework of the project “Enhancing regional connectivity among Serbia and Albania youth actors”. The project is financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
