Commemorated in Portugal the 40th anniversary of the fall of the dictatorship

Ambassador Edmond Trako took part in the official activity organized by the Parliamentary Assembly and the Presidency of Portugal, at Sao Bento Palace, on the occasion of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, which overthrew the fascist dictatorship of Salazar, on April 25, 1974.

This date is considered by the Portuguese people, as the turnaround point toward the resurrection of a new, modern, and Euro-Atlantic Portugal.

The 25 of April, 1974 will be remembered as the first revolution organized by the national army, where weapons were not raised to destroy the freedom, but to establish the democracy. The democratic system was established without bloodshed. The gun barrels of the soldiers were filled with carnations giving the name to this peaceful revolution, as the Carnation Revolution.

The celebrating event of this historical date which means a lot for the democracy and the Portuguese people, was attended by all the highest authorities of the legislative, executive and judicial system in Portugal, along with the President of the European Commission and former prime minister of Portugal, Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso, the diplomatic corps accredited in Lisbon, representatives of civil society, media, etc.
