The celebration of Europe Day in Portugal

On 9 of May, 2014, Ambassador Edmond Trako participated in the activities, organized by the Office of the European Commission Representative and the Office of European Parliament Representatives, in Lisbon, to celebrate the Europe Day. The event was attended by Portuguese authorities of the central and local government, European MPs, leaders of political parties, the diplomatic corps in Portugal, representatives of the media, etc.

These activities started with the delivery of the Prize for "The best paper on European elections", by the Secretary of State for European Affairs Mr. Bruno Maçães. Then, the promotion of the book "Tragic and Great Europe" by journalist Teresa de Sousa, was followed by a debate about the ways of progress and difficulties encountered during the process of European integration. Another event was the presentation of the European initiative "Youth on the Move", which main objective is to support young people facing challenges in employment and vocational education and training. These activities were closed by a concert in Mosterio dos Jeronimos organized by the Representatives of the EC and the European Parliament.

The now day’s United Europe was born as a visionary project of the countries emerging from the war. These countries founded it, driven by the desire to create lasting peace conditions among peoples. It was this desire that made ​​the Berlin Wall fell, brought democracy to the peoples of Central and Eastern Europe and is integrating them every day, more and more, into the European family, said in his speech the Head of the EC Office in Portugal.
