Ambassador Trako attended the III International Summit of Lisbon "Strategic Triangle: Latin America - Europe - Africa"

During 7 and 8 April 2014, Ambassador Edmond TRAKON took part at the III International Summit of Lisbon, titled: "Strategic Triangle: Latin America - Europe - Africa". Starting at 2012, the summit is traditionally organized by the Latin American Institute for Development (IPDAL), in collaboration with other national and international institutions.

The Portuguese government was represented at this meeting by the Minister of Environment, Territory and Energy, Mr. Jorge Moreira da Silva, Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities, Mr. Jose Cesario, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Ana Martinho, Director of the Camoes Institute, AICEP, etc. The Summit was also attended by representatives of the European Parliament, the European Commission, representatives of the business and diplomatic corps accredited in Lisbon.

The goal of the event was the presentation of new projects and creative ideas for strengthening the intercontinental integration process and regional economic, trade and cultural cooperation, within this triangle with strategic importance for the present and the future.

Through the efficient integration of the three components of this triangle, is intended to strengthen the ties between countries and regions, to create a market with relevant dimensions, competitively and balance. Also, during the meeting was agreed that the next summit must consider the inclusion of North America in the concept of Atlantic Strategic System. This proposal was argued by the fact that, without making a reorganization of the Atlantic Strategic System which was created nearly 10 years ago, it may not be anymore the main axis for economic development and global security. To implement this renewal system process, both countries of Iberian Peninsula, Spain and Portugal will have an important role.

More than 60 presentations and referrals from participants were held during the two working days of the summit. On the second day of the summit, a special session was dedicated to the messages of the three Deans of the Diplomatic Corps of Latin America, Europe and Africa.

As Dean of the European Diplomatic Corps Ambassador Edmond Trako gave a speech on behalf of the European ambassadors.
