Ambassador Edmond TRAKON took part in the annual meeting that the Portuguese President organizes with the Diplomatic Corps

On January 16, 2014 Ambassador Edmond TRAKO took part in the traditional annual meeting that the Portuguese President organized with the Diplomatic Corps accredited in Lisbon. The event was held in the Presidential Palace Queluz , with participation of about 120 ambassadors , heads of missions and Charges d'Affairs accredited in Lisbon. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Mr. Rui Machete, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.

During his speech, President Cavaco Silva, highlighted the importance that the year 2013 had for Portugal, in particular the facing of the serious economic and financial crisis, of which Portugal is gradually emerging, after the financial support received from international institutions starting in 2011. 2013 was named by President Cavaco Silva, as the year during which the Portuguese economy gave some positive signals, which will serve as basis during 2014 to exit the situation quickly. The economic recovery will be a national priority for 2014, so this will be crucial for Portugal since the end of the first 6 months of 2014 signs the end of the Economic & Financial Assistance program.

In the context of the development of multilateral relations, he thanked all countries who supported with their votes in the election of Portugal at the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO, and at the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization. Portugal will continue, stressed the president, its efforts to concrete its election at the Human Rights Council, and on this occasion he made another appeal of support from those countries that have not yet expressed their position.

During the ceremony, Ambassador TRAKO met with the President Cavaco Silva and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, Mr. Rui Machete.
