Bilateral Relations

The bilateral relations between Albania and Hungary

The diplomatic relations with Hungary are established on Mars 1922 (charge on duty), meanwhile, on 31 May 1992, the first credentials were presented. The political relation between Albania and Hungary are well established and stable. The both nations have shown high will in order to intensify further their political dialog through several visits in all levels- high level visits as a relevant contribution for strengthening the relations between the two nations and further intensification of the relations in the areas of mutual interest. Hungary is one of the first European Union member states that ratified MSA (Stabilization Association Agreement) between EU and Albania. Hungarian Parliament ratified unanimously the agreement on 23 April 2007; and on 31 May 2007 it delivered the ratification instruments in Brussels. Hungary supports the accession of Albania in EU. The long and good friendship tradition and also the cooperation between our two nations are very appreciated.

Diplomatic consultations between Albania and Hungary
In the framework of diplomatic consultations between Albania and Hungary, the Director General for Political and Strategic Affairs at MEFA, Mrs. Mimoza Halimi, met with the Secretary of State for EU Affairs at the Office of the Prime Minister, Mr. Szabolcs Takacs, with mr. Péter Sztáray, Secretary of State for Security Policy at the MFAT, and Mr. István Balogh, General Director for Security Policy and Non-Proliferation. In addition to exchanging views on current developments in Europe, Hungarian interlocutors reconfirmed Hungary's strong support for Albania's progress towards EU integration. During consultations, the parties noted that political relations are excellent and that the economic relations between the two countries are developing with a positive trend. However, there is untapped potential in many sectors - tourism, agriculture, energy, environmental protection, etc., which will be tackled persistently by both sides.
