Cooperation in the field of tourism is intensive and positive

Deliberating on new ways of cooperation in the field of tourism and concretization with the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation were the focus of the meeting between Ambassador Donika Hoxha and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Mariana Nikolova.

Minister Nikolova stressed that Albania is among the most promising tourist destinations for Bulgarian citizens and before the pandemic was one of the fastest growing markets, marking an increase of 34.5% in the number of tourists compared to 2018. According to Minister Nikolova statistics, in 2019, there were about 36,000 Albanian tourists in Bulgaria.

For Minister Nikolova, the interstate level and contacts in the field of tourism between the two countries are very intensive, appreciating the excellent cooperation in other international organizations such as: the World Tourism Organization, the Organization for Black Sea Economic Cooperation etc.

On her part, Ambassador Hoxha underlined the importance of the tourism sector in the Albanian economy, which accounts for more than 8% of GDP. Taking into account the indirect effects of tourist spending on other economic activities, this contribution is even higher.
