60th anniversary of the Department of Albanian Language at the University of Sofia

The Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Bulgaria in collaboration with the Department of General Linguistics, Department of Balkan Studies at the University of Sofia organized an activity on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Albanian Language. On this occasion and in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Albanian writer Thoma Kacori, the monographic study "Albanian writer Thoma Kacori in Bulgaria, life and work", by Prof. Rusana Bejleri and her daughter, Liljana Berjleri.
Part of this important activity dedicated to the work of the Department and one of the first lecturers of the Albanian language in Bulgaria were academics Floresha Dado and Shaban Sinani from the Academy of Sciences of Albania, the staff of the Embassy of Kosovo and students of the Albanian language.
In their welcoming speech, Ambassador Donika Hoxha, professors and academics stressed the importance of highlighting the work of writer, researcher and patriot Kacori, who is also the founder of the first Albanian language courses. Ambassador Hoxha stressed that his dedication and work have been transmitted to different generations outside Bulgaria. According to her, preserving the tradition of teaching the Albanian language is of great importance and praised the work of professors and students.
Academics Dado and Sinan focused on the role of Kacori's activity and the rich inherited tradition. Prof. Petya Asenova, one of Kacori's first students, paid more attention to his work and dedication to the Albanian language by telling stories of student life.
